Clint “The Milkman” Hairston Wins at Bowling Green

Bowling Green, KY (August) – HMR arrived at Beech Bend Raceway for the Quick Fuel Technology NMCA Muscle Car Nationals with high hopes for their first NMCA win after two runner-up finishes at Commerce and Joliet..

Qualifying proved difficult with changing track and weather conditions on Friday and Saturday with the Q3 round being cancelled due to severe thunderstorm warnings. Clint pedaled the car to a 6.44 in Q1 to grab the #6 qualifying spot.

Our opponent in round 1 was Jeff Lutz who had lane choice. An unusual red light from Jeff helped us to the second round. Although our car left hard with a .987 sixty foot time, the track couldn’t hold the power and Clint pedaled the car to a 6.70 giving us lane choice in the next round against Mario Orsini. This proved to be a great race with Clint taking the win with a 6.12 to Mario’s career best 6.15 setting up a final round showdown with Chris Rini. Rini earned lane choice with a great 6.06 against Bill Lutz in the Semifinals. After reviewing the data, Jake Hairston, HMR Crew Chief, decided to take power out of the car and just try to go A to B in the left lane hoping that Rini’s performance may fall off. The finals proved to be the race of the season with Clint taking the win on a hole shot (6.117 to a 6.084) and earning his first NMCA win and Wally giving him 12 career wins in 22 final round appearances. The margin of victory was .0076 seconds or just 18 inches at the finish line.

Our next event will be at Indianapolis for the FueLab NMCA World Street Finals October 12-14. Make sure you visit www.hairstonmotorsports.com to view new exciting race action video.
