HMR Runner-Up for Atlanta Rainout…Semi-Finals at Joliet
Joliet, IL (July 2013) – HMR arrived at Route 66 Raceway for the Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl looking to settle the Atlanta rainout race with Billy Glidden and score a win in one of the biggest races of the year.
Test and qualifying runs proved to be very unsuccessful on Friday and Saturday. With some new turbos and several engine updates, our 396 CID GM small block was making more power than ever rendering our existing chassis and gearing tune-ups useless. Q3 was used as the final round from the Atlanta race with lane choice going to Glidden. Although we made our best run of the weekend (6.18), Clint was uncharacteristically late losing to Glidden’s 6.21.
Although the car underperformed the entire event, Clint did a great job of driving the car the rest of the race taking us to the semi-finals losing to the eventual event winner Jim Widener. Congratulations to Jim and his team! We look forward to a big bounce back in Bowling Green leaving Joliet 5th in the points chase.
