HMR Runner-Up NMCA Bowling Green…Moves Up in the Points Chase

Bowling Green, KY (August 2013) – HMR arrived at Beech Bend Raceway for the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals looking for our first win of the season and to move up in the points chase.

At the end of the Saturday qualifying, we had earned the #2 qualifying spot with a 6.06 but at the expense of parts failure on both are engines which has been a very rare occurrence. A broken lifter and damaged cam in our 377 C.I. (little girl motor) and a burnt head gasket in our 396 C.I. (big girl motor) left us in bad situation. Jake made the decision to run the 396 C.I. motor on seven cylinders and hope for the best. As it turned out the ladder really worked in our favor with our first round competition unable to make the call and a second round bye which would put us into the final. Clint took the tree in round 1 & 2 idling to the end of the track to save what was left of the motor setting up a final round race with the #1 qualifier, Jeff Lutz. We took a swing at Jeff but his 6.12 was took good with our little small block giving up the ghost at half track. Congratulations to the Lutz family with their first NMCA win and a Wally for the trophy case.

Although we were looking for a win, under the circumstances, we were glad to get the runner-up points. Now Jake has got some work to do before Norwalk to get our engines back together.
