Clint “The Milkman” Hairston Qualifies #5

Indianapolis, IN (October 2014) – After an encouraging test session the week before, we decided to run the final race of the season with a Quick Drive/M&M Converter/Lenco combination. We arrived early Thursday hoping to make several test passes before Q1 on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, the weatherman didn’t cooperate with rain all day forcing cancellation of Friday racing and shortening the qualifying session to only two runs on Saturday.

With an A to B tune-up, Q1 on Saturday morning produced a 6.12 @ 239.44. While preparing for Q2, we discovered a burnt clutch pack in the Quick Drive caused by a faulty oil pressure regulator. Repairs were made but not in time for the Q2 session. Fortunately, our 6.12 pass held up for the #5 position with a round one race Saturday night against Hector Laracuente’s GTO. With track temperatures in the low 60’s, our E1 win against Hector ended up being a pedal fest. E2 against Brian Hicks on Sunday ended at the starting line when a rear brake disc pad broke after the burnout. Thankfully, the alert Indy starting line crew saw the problem shutting Clint off.

Finishing 5th in the world this year was below our expectations but considering that we missed two events during the year, we look optimistically to the 2015 season. Congratulations to Steve Summer’s Team for a great championship year. Looking forward finishing the season at the Street Car Super Nationals November 19-23.
