Hairston Racing Finds the Winner’s Circle Again

September 28, 2008 Phoenix, AZ…..The Pertronix Performance Products sponsored Hairston Racing Pro Street GTO found the winner’s circle again by winning the PSCA Arizona Nationals at the historic Firebird International Raceway.

Triple digit temperatures coupled with tricky track conditions made for a tough weekend on all competitors. Clint Hairston qualified poorly in the fifth spot @ 7.04 creating a first round match up with the point’s leader John Mihovetz driving the Accufab Cougar.

Sunday morning before eliminations, Jake Hairston, Crew Chief, and Bill Hickok, HMR ’s track consultant, decided to put their “Hot Weather Bakersfield Setup” in the car to just try and go from A to B. The change paid off with a first round win over Mihovetz with a 6.59 @ 214.25 MPH. Clint commented, “The car left hard but started to spin at the top of first gear. We barely made it!”

Second round eliminations pitted Clint against the #1 qualifier Kelly Bluebaugh driving the WFO Monte Carlo. This race proved to be the final with Guiseppi Gentile beating Tim Henry in the other semi final match up, but breaking the engine in the process. Kelly deep staged catching a .008 reaction time to Clint’s respectable .050 reaction. The WFO car immediately started to have problems when their on board fire system activated putting fire retardant on the rear tires. Clint put down a great 6.579 @ 220.48 MPH securing a final round single for the win. Only needing to break the beam, HMR GTO didn’t disappoint the fans by going ahead with a full pass running 6.57 @ 216.93 MPH.

The Hairston’s thanked all their sponsors in the winner’s circle including Pertronix, Doug’s Headers, Patriot Exhaust, Duttweiler Performance, Jerry Bickel Race Cars, Mickey Thompson tires, Precision Turbo, ARP, Dart Machinery, Starside Design, Hickok Race Cars, Ed Thornton Fabrication, Specialty Fasteners, The Desperado Dairy and C&R Vanderham Dairy.

Hairston Racing’s next event will be at The Strip in Las Vegas October 17-19 for the PSCA Mickey Thompson Tires Fall Nationals.
